About Us

MEG’s roots begin in 1997, when director Chris Simpson founded Strategic Sports, a sports marketing and rights acquisition firm. In 2007, the organisation started trading as IMECO (International Major Events Company), before becoming MEG. With a dedicated team of major event specialists, MEG has a wealth of experience working on major events for over two decades.

Founding director Chris Simpson has a strong background in sponsorship and broadcast acquisition, as well as event management. Chris recently served as the former Head of Major Events for Auckland, where he played a pivotal role in guiding the city through a comprehensive major event strategy following COVID-19.

Under his leadership, Auckland successfully hosted a diverse range of events, including: the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, Women’s Rugby World Cup, FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, the World Rally Championship, fashion shows, art fairs, cultural festivals, All Blacks Tests, international tennis events, and blockbuster concerts featuring artists like Coldplay and Ed Sheeran.

Careers & Territories

MEG is looking to expand its global network of major event specialists and territories by offering major event professionals the opportunity to work on, or own, a major events company within their chosen country/ territory.

Due to the global, cyclical nature of major events, ‘best practise’ major event services are required by host governments, host cities, local organising committees and sports federations throughout the world.
